Discovered in 1906 by Dr. John C. Hawver, Auburn Dentist and Paleontologist, this cave was the site of many fossil discoveries and geological interests. Later it was co-opted for the quarry operations as an easy way to transport out material. Now it is closed for public use however it may be opened up for scheduled guided tours in the coming years May 2021. My husband and I visited the Mine Hill Preserve in Roxbury, Connecticut on Wednesday, May 26th, 2021. The ride on the backroads through the Litchfield Hills was beautiful, but the Preserve was not as we expected. The road the Preserve is located on, Mine Hill Road, is a narrow unpaved road.
