5 reviews of Fort De Soto Park Campground Possibly the most perfect campground ever created... and because it is county run... it is the most incredibly affordable WATERFRONT campground in the country. When we can get in here, this is always our go to spot. We have brought our tents, our pop up camper and most recently our RV... and each and every time has been a terrific experience 322 reviews of Fort De Soto Park I used to go here when I was younger, but I had forgotten how beautiful it is. It is a pretty drive down there and then it is great because you can have events at the covered shelters and then you can go down to the beach for a swim! There are also boat ramps and camping area. Description. Located on 1136 acres of coastal lovely, Fort De Soto Campground is the creme de la creme of the Gulf Coast and one of the only sites on this coast that offers waterfront beach camping. This huge campground is geared to the nines with modern amenities and has activities for everyone Hi! I made a reservation for Fort De Soto in Area 1, which is supposed to be for tent camping and trailers under 16 feet. I had planned on going tent camping, but since then I've purchased a lightweight trailer that's about 22 feet long. The campsite dimensions are listed as 19 feet by 60 feet (width x length). Curious if others feel I could take the risk to bring my new trailer into that spot. The campground is large enough to spend some time cycling around and is great exercise and a great way to meet your fellow campers. The bathhouses are clean and located throughout the campground as you would expect. The view from our waterfront site at the Fort Desoto Campground, St. Petersburg, Florida Fort DeSoto Park has a wonderful, relaxing campground. We stayed at Fort De Soto Park Campground in site 135 for 7 nights. The only good thing about the park is that it is on Mullet Bay which allows you to kayak whenever you would like. The park is so overgrown that you cannot get to your site without hitting tree branches While most RV sites in Fort DeSoto's massive campground are on the water, only the tent campground is on an actual beach. The waterfront RV sites are on seawalls, and these RV sites are still pretty nice! You can paddle, ride a bike or drive within the park to one of the most outstanding beaches in the nation, Fort DeSoto's famous North Beach Nestled on five islands, Fort De Soto Park has two main beaches where you can enjoy sunbathing, shelling, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, boating, fishing, hiking, biking, camping, and wildlife watching. One of them is East Beach located on the southeast shore stretching along the Tampa Bay. It is less popular than North Beach, which means more quietness and tranquility in the absence of big crowds
Fort De Soto Park also has a 7-mile, 12-foot wide asphalt recreation trail for bikers and inline skaters that connects the campground with the north and east beach swim centers and the historic fort.
